Mill Girl and Calf
Description:
A mill girl sits on bales of cotton cloth whilst daydreaming, the calf has bitten through its halter and wandered off.

 Mill Girl

The subject matter came from local research - we decided to combine Burnley’s industrial and agricultural past - its history of mills and cattle markets. These were shown together in a photograph of a mill girl feeding her calf in a local book about the history of Burnley.

There is space next to the mill girl on the bales for people to sit and the calf is of a size for small children to play on.
