Elephant Fire & Lantern Figures

Bonfire Sculptor:
Philip Bews

Lantern Sculptor:
Diane Gorvin

Phil designed and made the 6m high scrap wood Elephant Fire Sculpture.

Phil was assisted with the onsite building of the sculpture by Peter Covington-Jones.

Some decoration of the howdah on the elephant's back was made by younger members of the Compton family and their friends.

Diane designed and built the sculptural lanterns.

Diane had help from Enid Jessop on the last two days of the project.

The Elephant and Lanterns were created ... and set alight for a private party in Newby Hall, Yorkshire, during July 2007.

All the Newby Hall staff were very helpful giving us plenty of practical support.
