Barnard's Wharf Animals
Barnards Wharf geeseDescription:
The Area Landscape Architect was Fraser Borwick and his idea was to have a procession of life size farm animals making their way to Surrey Dock Farm.

Philip made the pigs and piglets, Diane did the geese and cat, both Philip and Diane worked on the donkey. The sculptures were based on the sculptors own cat Freya, Bo the donkey and the geese from Walton Hall’s children’s Zoo (our sculpture studio was in Walton Hall from 1987- 97). Phil studied the Berkshire pigs from Croxteth Farm Park, Liverpool.

Various sculptors were involved.  Both Diane and Phil made the animals after drawing from life and even getting the donkey and geese up to the studio. They were made from direct plaster which was cast into bronze by Castle Fine Art Foundry.

The bronzes were installed by the contractor Brophy plc on previously prepared concrete bases.
