Acorn Cup, Seed and Leaves
Sculptural Seat

Central Square, Whiteley, Hampshire
Commissioned by Hampshire County Council through Hyland Edgar Driver Landscape Architects

Materials - Portland stone, and oak. Two carved stone sculptures, based on an acorn cup and seed with oak leaves attached, form the seating which is 4m long.

They are fixed as a group directly onto the paving in the square. The theme was suggested by the large oak trees on the site, where the seating is handy for parents collecting their children from school. The sculptures were carved from selected quarried blocks from Portland, Dorset. The oak for the leaf seating came from Ayleburton Common in the Forest of Dean.
