Description:
Bronze head modelled by Diane in clay and wax - cast by Castle Fine Arts Foundry, design/technical drawings of the stainless steel boat and plinth with internal conduits and housings for the LEDs by Phil and steel fabricator. Boat fabricated by Metalcraft Engineering Ltd; polished concrete plinth - with granite and black basalt aggregate cast by Creagh Concrete Ltd; LED lighting strip by ILight Technologies USA. Phil and Diane liaised with the client, Todd Architects, Gillespies’ landscape architect, site manager and fabricators.
The theme embodies the importance of the journey, a well known metaphor for life. The bronze figurehead has a crowd of butterflies around the head, showing the consolations of nature, bringing a sense of happiness and wellbeing. Workshops with staff were undertaken on the same theme.
